Chemical Transformation of Protoberberines. XVII. Biomimetic Introduction of an Oxy Functionality at the C-10 Position in the Benzo(c)phenanthridine Skeleton: Synthesis of 2,3,7,8,10-Pentaoxygenated Benzo(c)phenanthridine Alkaloids, Chelilutine and Sanguilutine.
Collective total syntheses of 10 benzo[c]phenanthridines were achieved on the basis of the construction of rings C and B through sequential transition metal-catalyzed reactions and flexible condition-controlled Mannich reaction via three pots in 25–34% yields, which provided an efficientroute to benzo[c]phenanthridines via a pot-economic approach.
