Eight substituted indane-2-carboxaldehydes (= 2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-2-carboxaldehydes), related to conformationally constrained analogues of floral-type odorants, were synthesized in order to examine the effect of modifying the lipophilic part of the odorants (Schemes 1 and 2).
