Optically active β,γ-disubstituted-α-methylene-γ-butyrolactones were synthesized by palladium(II)-catalyzed cyclization reactions of homochiral allylic 2-alkynoates. The reaction was applied to the total synthesis of methylenolactocin in both enantiomeric forms.
