The linear furanocoumarin, hortiolone 1 from Hortia arborea has been synthesised in five steps from 7-hydroxy-5-prenyloxycoumarin in 76% overall yield. The spectroscopic evidence for the co-occurring hortinone has been reassessed and the revised angular furanocoumarin structure 9 confirmed by synthesis.
