  @ Ein universell anwendbares Verfahren zur Herstellung von Azofarbstoffen durch oxidative Kupplung besteht darin, daß man die Oxidation in Gegenwart von Redoxvermittlern ("Mediatoren") mit einem Standardpotential von 0,2-1,5 Volt und gegebenenfalls eines zusätzlichen Oxidationsmittels mit einem Standardpotential von 0,25-2,5 Volt durchführt, wobei die Summe der Oxidationsäquivalente mindestens 4 betragen soll. Bevorzugter Redoxvermittler ist Jod. Das Verfahren eignet sich besonders zur Herstellung von heteroaromatischen Azofarbstoffen mit einer anilinischen Kupplungskomponente.
