2,4- vs 3,4-Disubsituted Pyrrole Synthesis Switched by Copper and Nickel Catalysts

A novel and efficient copper or nickel catalyzed highly selective denitrogenative annulation of vinyl azides with aryl acetaldehydes has been developed. 2,4- and 3,4-diaryl substituted pyrroles, which are difficult to synthesize by the reported methods, can be highly regioselectively prepared by this protocol simply switched by the selection of the transition metal catalysts. Compared with the reported acidic or basic conditions for polysubstituted pyrrole synthesis, the present reaction conditions are mild, neutral, and very simple without any additives.
The synthesis of polarity-sensitive fluorescent dyes based on the BODIPY chromophore
Two novel BODIPY dyes were synthesized, and their fluorescence characteristics studied in different solvents. Both dyes were extremely sensitive to solvent polarity. Their fluorescence intensities were very low in DMSO but increased more than 80 times in chloroform; similar behaviour was found in fluorescence quantum yield, which was enhanced similar to 60-fold. Both dyes displayed fluorescence enhancement with bovine serum albumin, which illustrated that the two probes were very sensitive to polarity change and, therefore, may be valuable as microenvironment-sensitive probes in biochemical research. A turn-on fluorescent probe based on hydroxylamine oxidation for detecting ferric ion selectively in living cells

We have described a turn on fluorescent probe BOD-NHOH based on hydroxylamine oxidation for detecting intracellular ferric ions. The probe comprises a signal transducer of BODIPY dye and a Fe3+-response modulator of hydroxylamine. It is readily employed for assessing intracellular ferric ion levels, and confocal imaging is achieved successfully.
Reaction between 4-Nitro-1,3-diarylbutan-1-ones and Ammonium Acetate in the Presence of Morpholine and Sulfur: An Efficient Synthesis of 2,4-Diarylpyrroles
An efficient synthesis of 2,4-diarylpyrroles is described. Heating a mixture of a 4-nitro-1,3-diarylbutan-1-one and ammoniumacetate in the presence of morpholine and sulfur afforded the corresponding 2,4-diarylpyrroles in excellent yields.
