Reaction of 6,6-diarylfulvene dianions with dichloromethane yields 1,1-diaryl-spiro[2.4]hepta-4,6-dienes, and reduction of the diphenylspiroheptadiene with lithiummetal or lithiumnaphthalene cleanly generates a novel homopentafulvene dianion.
