    explanation. Attempts at depositing chiral L.B. multilayers of (+)-C18H37SO-p-tolyl were not successful because of crystallite formation on the quartz support. Multilayers of (+)-S-octadecyl cysteine were deposited successfully, albeit with a monolayer of stearic acid interposed every seven monolayers of the chiral compound. No optical rotation was observed in the films.

    Disclosed are a propylene polymer having a high crystallinity of a boiled heptane-insoluble component contained therein, a high stereoregularity and an extremely long mesochain (continuous propylene units wherein directions of &agr;-methyl carbons are the same as each other), and a process for preparing said polymer. Also disclosed are a propylene block copolymer containing a crystalline polypropylene portion having a high crystallinity of a boiled heptane-insoluble component contained therein, a high stereoregularity and an extremely long mesochain, and a process for preparing said copolymer. Further disclosed is a propylene polymer composition comprising the above propylene polymer or propylene block copolymer and at least one stabilizer selected from a phenol type stabilizer, an organophosphite type stabilizer, a thioether type stabilizer, a hindered amine type stabilizer and a metallic salt of higher aliphatic acid. The propylene polymer of the invention is excellent in rigidity, heat resistance and moisture resistance, and can be favorably used for sheet, film, filament, injection molded product, blow molded product, etc. The propylene block polymer of the invention is well-balanced between rigidity, heat resistance and moisture resistance, and can be favorably used for sheet, filament, injection molded product, blow molded product, etc. The propylene polymer composition of the invention has excellent properties of the propylene polymer or the propylene block copolymer, and moreover is excellent in heat stability during the molding stage, long-term heat stability and weathering resistance. The propylene polymer composition can be favorably used for sheet, film, filament, injection molded product, blow molded product, etc.

    A random copolymer composed of ethylene, a 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene and optionally an alpha-olefin having at least three carbon atoms or cycloolefin. The mole ratio of polymerized units from the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene to polymerized units from ethylene is from 3:97 to 95:5 and the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene is incorporated in the polymer chain as polymerized units without ring-opening. The copolymer is prepared by copolymerizing ethylene, optionally the alpha-olefin of at least 3 carbon atoms or cycloolefin, with the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene in a hydrocarbon medium in the presence of a catalyst formed from a vanadium compound and an organoaluminum compound which are soluble in the hydrocarbon medium. The copolymer has excellent transparency and a well balanced-combination of heat resistance, heat aging resistance, chemical and solvent resistance, dielectric properties and mechanical properties such as rigidity.
