  A straightforward approach to enantiomerically enriched (R) and (S)-3-hydroxycyclopentanone is described. The key step involves a kinetic resolution of racemic 3-hydroxycyclopentanone using commercial Pseudomonas cepacia lipase immobilized on diatomite (Amano lipase PS-DI).
