The Sonogashira coupling was conducted in a ball mill using a catalytically active milling ball and three additives in low quantities to achieve quantitative yields within 90 minutes. Using state-of-the-art spectroscopic, diffractive, as well as in situ methods led to the discovery of a formed complex of the co-catalyst copper, which differs from liquid phase Sonogashira coupling.
