  The compound (1S/R)-1-[(1S/R)-1,5-dimethyl-hex-5-enyl]-4-methyl-cyclohex-3-en-1-ol (iso-&bgr;-bisabolol) of the formula A: 1 is described, as well as the individual configuration isomers thereof. Iso-&bgr;-bisabolol has a very strong flowery and extremely pleasant odor reminiscent of lily-of-the-valley, so that even small amounts of this substance are able to effect a modification of a perfume or flavor (base) composition that can be detected by sensory means.
