In this work we studied the reaction of 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D-glyceraldehyde 1 with diazoacetone 2, the photochemical behaviour of the condensation product, and analysed the protector group effect that modifies the photochemically induced intramolecular processes of the condensation product and its derivatives.
