Nitrogen/halogen-rich derivatives of FOX-7 (1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethene), and H-FOX (1-hydrazinyl-2,2-dinitroethenamine) have been synthesized, characterized and found to exhibit energetic and hypergolic properties.

Development of new halogen free green energetic oxidizers 1,1′‐methylenebis[3‐(2,2,2‐trinitroethyl)urea] and 1,1′‐methylenebis[1‐nitro‐3‐(2,2,2‐trinitroethyl)urea] results from sensitive H‐FOX in good yields. Both compounds have high nitrogen and oxygen content and exhibit high densities and good detonation properties.
Predicting the impact sensitivity of a polymorphic high explosive: the curious case of FOX-7

The impact sensitivity (IS) of FOX-7 polymorphs is predicted by phonon up-pumping to decrease as layers of FOX-7 molecules flatten. Experimental validation proved anomalous owing to a phase transition during testing, raising questions regarding impact sensitivity measurement and highlighting the need for models to predict IS of polymorphic energetic materials.

Disclosed is a method for the nitration of 4,6-dihydroxy-2-methylpyrimidine for the synthesis of 4,6-dihydroxy-5,5-dinitro-2-(dinitromethylene)-2,5-dihydropyrimidine which is used as a precursor of 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene, one type of explosives. The present invention provides an improved method for the nitration of 4,6-dihydroxy-2-methylpyrimidine, wherein organic solvent is applied in the nitration process of 4,6-dihydroxy-2-methylpyrimidine thereby solving the safety problem while improving the yield of nitration.

Among energeticmaterials, there are two significant challenges facing researchers: 1) to develop ionic CHNO explosives with higher densities than their parent nonionic molecules and (2) to achieve a fine balance between high detonation performance and lowsensitivity. We report a surprising energetic salt, hydroxylammonium 3-dinitromethanide-1,2,4-triazolone, that exhibits exceptional properties,
