RECENT work1 in these laboratories has been concerned with the enzymic degradation of naturally occurring aminopolysaccharide sulphates. Further extension of these studies necessitated the synthesis of a series of hexose and hexosamine sulphate esters. Methods for the sulphation of carbohydrates have been re-examined and procedures developed for the synthesis of authentic samples of glucose-6-sulphate and N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulphate.
