  Dinuclear cyclometalated platinum (II) complexes: Synthesis, photophysics, and monomolecular electroluminescence

  Two novel dinuclear platinum (II) complexes of (C(12)Rppy)(2)Pt-2(dipic) (R = H and F) were synthesized and characterized, where C(12)Rppy is a 2-phenylpyridine derivative modified with dodecyloxy groups and dipic is a bi-picolinic acid derivative linked by biphenyl unit. Their physical, surface morphologies and optoelectronic properties, as well as molecular orbitals calculation were investigated. Intense excimer emission for both dinuclear platinum (II) complexes were observed in their neat films rather than in their dichloromethane solution under photo-excitation. In contrary, these dinuclear platinum (II) complexes exhibited a stronger monomolecular emission instead of excimer emission in their doped single-emissive-layer polymer light-emitting devices (PLEDs) under electric field owing to the effect of two alkyloxy groups in the ligand of 2-phenylpyridine. Better electroluminescent emission with a maximum current efficiency of 1.3 cd/A and a maximum luminance of 1407 cd/cm(2) was observed in the (C(12)Hppy)(2)Pt-2(dipic)-doped devices. To our best knowledge, the performance of (C(12)Rppy)(2)Pt-2(dipic) (R = H and F) is among the top values for the solution-processed dinuclear platinum (II) complex-based PLEDs reported so far.   White emission from dinuclear cyclometalated platinum(II) complex in single-emitting layer PLEDs

  摘要：

  A dinuclear platinum(II) complex of (dfppy)(2)Pt(2)(dipic) has been prepared, where dfppy is 2,4-difluorophenylpyridine and dipic is a biphenyl-bridged bi-picolinic acid derivative. Its physical and optoelectronic properties, as well as molecular orbitals calculation have been investigated and compared with those of its mono-nuclear (dfppy)Pt(pic) complex. Both platinum(II) complexes exhibited almost identical photoluminescence (PL) spectra with deep blue emission in dilute dichloro-methane (10(-5) M) and different PL spectra with red emission in their neat films. Stable white emissions were obtained in the (dfppy)(2)Pt(2)(dipic)-doped polymer light-emitting devices using a blend of poly(vinylcarbazole) and 2-(4-biphenyl)-5-(4-tert-butyl-phenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole as a host matrix at dopant concentrations from 1 wt % to 10 wt %. In contrast, the (dfppy)Pt(pic)-doped devices exhibited orange-red emissions in the same device configuration. It indicates that dinuclear platinum(II) complex with a non-planar structure is an effective way to control formation excimers of platinum(II) complex and get white-emitting PLEDs with single dopant.
