    Six cyclic thiourea/urea functionalized triphenylamine-based dyes (AZ1-AZ6) containing 2-cyanoacrylic acid as an acceptor and various linkers (phenyl, biphenyl, and bithiophene) were synthesized. They exhibited high photovoltaic performance owing to an improved short-circuit photocurrent density (J(sc)) and open-circuit voltage (V-oc). Among them, AZ6 bearing a cyclic thiourea group and bithiophene linker showed the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) up to 7.29%, which was comparable to that of N719 (PCE = 7.36%).

    A unique one-pot reaction via C-C cleavage from aminomethylene benzimidazoles with commercial halides to access novel benzimidazolones is reported for the first time. The previously unexploited transformation is able to perform smoothly in the presence of commercial potassium carbonate, while the stronger inorganic bases or organic amines as catalysts are not favorable to the transformation. Significant influential factors including base, temperature, solvent, water content, and molar ratio of substrates to this reaction are investigated, and possibly mechanistic consideration is also discussed. Some synthesized benzimidazolones were evaluated and exhibited better bioactivities against tested strains than clinical drugs chloromycin, norfloxacin, and fluconazole. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd.     Compounds capable of interacting with the calmodulin-PIP2 binding domain of the SK4 channel to thereby interfere with the Ca2+-dependent activation of the SK4 channel and uses thereof in downregulating an activity of an SK4 channel in a subject in need thereof, are disclosed. Also disclosed is a method of identifying a candidate compound that is capable of downregulating an activity of SK4 channel, based on its interaction with the calmodulin-PIP2 binding domain of the SK4 channel.
