The Lewis base-catalyzed double nucleophilic substitution reaction of N-tosylaziridinofullerene with various ureas allows the easy preparation of fulleroimidazolidinones with a high tolerance for functional groups. Alkyl-substituted ureas show better reactivity than aryl-substituted ureas.

Carboxylic acids upon treatment with Burgess reagent are converted to novel mixed sulfocarboxy anhydrides. Subsequent treatment of such mixed anhydrides with amines at elevated temperatures yields acyl ureas and amides. The ratio of the two products appears to be temperature controlled. The catalytic effects of various metal halides and solvents on the reaction of benzoyl chloride with sodiumcyanate were studied. The present invention relates to hydroxamate compounds which are inhibitors of histone deacetylase. More particularly, the present invention relates to acylurea/sulfonylurea containing compounds and methods for their preparation.
