Rational Design of Coumarin‐Based Hybridized Local and Charge‐Transfer Blue Emitters for Solution‐Processed Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

Coumarins were employed as new acceptors to construct HLCT emitters, namely pPh-7M, pPh-7P, and pPh-6M. The proportions of CT and LE components were fine controlled by the connection site and substituent of coumarins. The solution-processed OLED devices based on pPh-6M with dominant 1LE and 3CT components realized the champion EQEmax of 6.54 %, and deep-blue emission wavelength at 446 nm.
A new protocol for the synthesis of polysubstituted isocoumarins from 2-iodobenzoic acid and beta-diketone compounds has been developed. The occurrence of C-arylation cyclization reaction in transition-metal-free systems and ortho-induced substrates has been exploited. Reactions using these inexpensive conditions have displayed high functional group tolerance and excellent yields. (c) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
