A highly efficient one‐pot simple synthesis of 2‐[2‐oxo‐2H‐pyrido[1,2‐a]pyridmidn‐3(4H)‐ylidene)]acetic acid is described. The rearrangement of 2‐[2‐oxo‐2H‐pyrido[1,2‐a]pyridmidn‐3(4H)‐ylidene)]acetic acid in the presence of polyphosphoric acid (PPA) yielded a seven‐membered diazepine with decarboxylation and ring expansion.
