A mild Ni-catalyzed reductive arylation of tertiaryalkylhalides with aryl bromides has been developed that delivers products bearing all-carbon quaternary centers in moderate to excellent yields with excellent functional group tolerance. Electron-deficient arenes are generally more effective in inhibiting alkyl isomerization. The reactions proceed successfully with pyridine or 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a metal salt of an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid which has excellent dispersibility in polyolefin resins, and is thus excellent in crystallinity improving effect that is essential performance as a crystal nucleating agent for polyolefin resins, regardless of processing conditions; a method for producing the metal salt of an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid; a crystal nucleating agent containing the metal salt of an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid; a crystal nucleating agent composition for polyolefin resins containing the crystal nucleating agent and a fatty acid metal salt; a polyolefin resin composition containing the crystal nucleating agent; and a polyolefin resin molded article obtained using the polyolefin resin composition as a raw material. Provided is a metal salt of an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid in which the alicyclic dicarboxylic acid is an alkyl substituent-containing cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid, and the metal salt is a calcium salt, a hydroxyaluminum salt, a disodium salt, or a dilithium salt.

Carbonylation of o-dibromobenzene and its derivatives in the presence of palladium phosphine complexes with NaOAc or Et3N additive leads to the formation of phthalates in high yield under mild conditions. Correlation NMR spectroscopy data and semiempirical calculations have shown that the reactivity of the C-Br bond is enhanced with the increase in the positive charge at the carbon atom, in line with the results of kinetic experiments.

Modular approach to obtaining organic glasses from low-molecular weight dyes using 1,1,1-triphenylpentane auxiliary groups: Nonlinear optical properties
A new modular synthetic approach to obtain organic glasses from low-molecular weight azobenzenes and stilbenes has been accomplished using 1,1,1-triphenylpentane crystallization preventing auxiliary groups. Six new structures show excellent solubility in non-polar solvents and thin films with good optical qualities have been obtained using a spin-coating technique. The glass transition temperatures of the new amorphous materials were in the range of 73-108 degrees C. The nonlinear optical activity in thin amorphous films was measured after a corona poling procedure. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
