    Mesomorphic Dithiooxamide Complexes of Platinum(II)
    摘要:
    Complexation of non-mesomorphic dithiooxamide ligands to Pt(II) leads to square planar complexes which exhibit mesomorphic properties. The synthesis of these complexes was accomplished in three steps: the formation of bisamides, starting from conveniently substituted anilines, their conversion into dithiooxamides and the reaction of these sulfur derivatives with [PtCl2(dmso)(2)]. Four, eight and twelve-chained complexes were obtained and their behaviour as potentially mesomorphic material was studied. The eight-chained complexes 21 (n = 12-16) and the twelve-chained complexes 22 (n = 8,11,13) exhibit columnar mesophases which have been characterised by optical microscopy, X-ray scattering and related miscibility studies.

    The synthesis and mesomorphic properties of a homologous series ofN-(2-hydroxy-4-n-alkoxybenzylidene)-3′,4′-di-n-alkoxylanilines and their copper(ii) complexes bis[(N-3′,4′-dialkoxyphenyl)-4-n-alkoxylsalicylaldiminato]copper(ii) are reported. The disc-like copper complexes exhibited columnar hexagonal disordered mesophases, which were characterized by DSC analysis and optical polarized microscopy. The structure of the mesophases was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The mesomorphic properties for these copper complexes were compared with other similar metallomesogenic bis(salicylaldiminato)copper(ii) complexes in terms of molecular structural differences.

  • Liquid crystals based on semiperfluorinated imines and salicylaldimato metal complexes. A comparative study of alkyl, alkoxy and polyether substituents

    Three series of imines containing fluoroalkyl, polyether, alkyl and alkoxy peripheral chains have been prepared. The phase behaviour of the semiperfluorinated compounds has been investigated by optical polarizing microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray scattering. The thermal behaviour of the semiperfluorinated imines1–10 depends on the number of chains, the substitution pattern and the number of fluorine atoms in the fluoroalkyl chains. Increasing the number of fluorine atoms in the fluoroalkyl chains leads to a stabilization of smectic and columnar mesophases. The effect of polyether side chains on the mesomorphic behaviour of imine compounds has also been investigated. In addition, first examples of mesogenic copper(II) complexes carrying semiperfluorinated alkyl chains at their peripheries and a palladium complex have been synthesized and their liquid crystalline properties have been investigated.
