The Lewis acid-catalysed transformation of epoxides to aziridines with iminophosphoranes as the nitrogen-fragment donor has been investigated. Ring-opening of aziridines with various nucleophiles (such as amines, thiols, and silylated nucleophiles) in DMSO under mild conditions without any catalyst afforded the corresponding products in good to excellent yields.

We report here the use of PPh3/halogenating agents as highly efficient reagents for the ring opening of aziridines with halides. The method works effectively for both activated and non-activated aziridines, and furnishes the products in excellent yields within a short period of time.
