The efficient enzymatic resolution at a central stage en route from benzene to amino(deoxy) inositols provides 6-epi-sannamine (sporamine) type glycosyl acceptors in high optical purity. Enantiomeric purpurosamine type glycosyl donors are approached (with only limited success) via lipase catalyzed amidation of 2-aminomethyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran and aminolysis of 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-carboxylic esters
