The invention relates to a process comprising reacting mevalonic acid, or a solution comprising mevalonic acid, to yield a first product or first product mixture, optionally in the presence of a solid catalyst and/or at elevated temperature and/or pressure. The invention further relates to a process comprising: (a) providing a microbial organism that expresses a biosynthetic mevalonic acid pathway; (b) growing the microbial organism in fermentation medium comprising suitable carbon substrates, whereby biobased mevalonic acid is produced; and (c) reacting said biobased mevalonic acid to yield a first product or first product mixture.

The absolute stereochemistry of the tetrahydropyran was established by catalytic asymmetric Jacobsen hetero-Diels-Alder reaction. The remote C19 stereocenter was introduced by a sequence of chelation-controlled Grignard addition and Ireland-Claisen rearrangement.

The first osmium-catalyzed electrooxidative C−H annulation is disclosed. While improved selectivities are possible, unprecedented osmium intermediates are presented along with detailed kinetic studies, which revealed the working mode of osmaelectrocatalysis.

A method for producing α-substituted acrylate esters is provided which can be suitably used as an industrial method for producing α-substituted acrylate esters because the method does not have problems of apparatus corrosion or does not require waste detoxification and allows reaction in a short time with high yield. The method for producing an α-substituted acrylate ester includes a step of carrying out a reaction of a compound having a specific structure and an active hydrogen-containing compound under a condition where a tertiary amine and an acid and/or a salt thereof coexist.
