Unsymmetrical chiral secondary vicinal diamines were synthesized by applying a modified three-step reaction. The key step in this sequence is a primary amine mediated ring opening reaction of a diastereomeric oxazolidinone derivative. A possible mechanism for this step is described. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. A series of l-pyroglutamic acid analogues fromnaturalproduct lead were designed and synthesized, as well as their antifungal activities against Phytophthora infestans, neuritogenic activities, antibacterial activities and anti-inflammatory activities are described. The bioassays and SAR study showed that the majority of l-pyroglutamic acid esters have a significant antifungal activity against P.
