  A series of thiols have been examined as protic nucleophiles for Michael-type additions to alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyls as well as double nucleophilic condensations with aldehydes, ketones, and acetals catalyzed by amphoteric, water-tolerant vanadyl triflate under mild and neutral conditions.
