  The preparation of a variety of N′-(2,2-difluoro-3-hydroxyalkanoyl) nornicotines via a Reformatsky-type reaction of ethyl bromodifluoroacetate with aldehydes is described. The difluoromethylene unit may be regarded as an isopolar and isosteric replacement for ether oxygen.
