Arylamines have been converted into aryltrimethylammonium salts, which on reaction with sodium trimethylstannide (1) in liquid ammonia afford aryltrimethylstannanes by the SRN1 mechanism. We report herein a simple, metal- and additive-free, photoinduced borylation of haloarenes, including electron-rich fluoroarenes, as well as arylammoniumsalts directly to boronic acids. This borylation method has a broad scope and functional group tolerance. We show that it can be further extended to boronic esters and carried out on gram scale as well as under flow conditions.

Broad scope and good tolerance: An efficient cross‐coupling of aryltrimethylammonium iodide salts with aryl‐, methyl‐, and benzylzinc chlorides catalyzed by [Ni(PCy3)2Cl2] has been achieved (see scheme). Nickel-induced conversion of carbon–nitrogen into carbon–carbon bonds. One-step transformations of aryl, quaternary ammonium salts into alkylarenes and biaryls
Aryltrimethylammonium iodides are shown to undergo reaction with Grignard reagents under phosphine-ligated, low-valent nickel catalysis with the formation of alkylarenes and biaryls.
