Methylcarbonate and Bicarbonate Phosphonium Salts as Catalysts for the Nitroaldol (Henry) Reaction

At 25–50 °C, under solventless conditions, CILs efficiently catalyze the Henry addition of different aldehydes and ketones to nitroalkanes: not only they allow the selective formation of nitroaldols but they unlock a novel high-yielding access to dinitromethyl derivatives of ketones.
Disclosed herein are oxiran amines useful for the treatment of a variety of diseases. The oxiran amines are useful in the manufacture of pharmaceutical compositions. The pharmaceutical composition may be used for the treatment or prevention of a disease caused by a virus having a lipid membrane or the pharmaceutical composition may be used for diseases requiring cell proliferation or immune-regulation.
However, their preparation in enantiomerically pure forms takes many efforts. Here, we synthetized all stereoisomers of these compounds by application of enantioselective catalysis and we revealed, that more easily available racemic forms exhibit similar cytotoxicity as enantiomerically pure forms.
