A novel one pot conversion of cinnamoyl amides to the corresponding beta-phenylisoserine derivatives war developed by employing polyaniline supported cobalt(ll)-salen catalysed formation of the epoxide followed by its opening with anilines at ambient conditions. Benzotriazol-1-yloxytris(dimethylamino)phosphonium hexafluorophosphate reagent (BOP) serves as an efficient and versatile coupling reagent for the coupling Of Conjugated carboxylic acid with methyl ester amino acids hydrochloride allowing the synthesis of various Substituted amino acid derivatives in high chemical yields of up to 90%. The usefulness of this method is illustrated in the synthesis of Fa-Met, an important enzymatic substrate. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Formation of carboxamides of a variety of carboxylic acids with the coupling reagent BBDI is described, This procedure permits a one pot and simple operation without the need of any bases and no base was required for even use of amine hydrochlorides.
