A Cu-II coordination polymer, [Cu(sbpc)(phen)(H2O)]center dot H2O 1, has been synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically (H(2)sbpc = 4-sulfobiphenyl-4'-carboxylic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline). Single-crystal structural analysis shows that 1 consists of dinuclear [Cu-2(CO2)(2)] units bridged via sbpc(2-) to afford a 1-D chain, which then extends into the 3-D coordination polymer supramolecular network by O-H...O hydrogen bonds and pi...pi interactions. Magnetic measurements indicate that complex 1 exhibits weak antiferromagnetic coupling. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
