Eight new polyether compounds that bear inward-facing bromo and formate ester substituents are prepared as synthetic intermediates. Selectivities and efficiencies of the four new lipophilic crown ether carboxylic acids in competitive alkali metal cation extraction from aqueous solutions into chloroform are evaluated.
