A method for manufacturing polyhydroxyalkanoate-containing structure, at least a part of a base material surface of the structure being coated with polyhydroxyalkanoate, the method comprises the steps of immobilizing a polyhydroxyalkanoate synthase on the base material surface, synthesizing, on the base material surface, polyhydroxyalkanoate using a 3-hydroxyacyl coenzyme A to become the substrate of the synthase and the synthase and coating at least a part of the base material surface with the synthesized polyhydroxyalkanoate, wherein the synthase contains an amino acid sequence capable of binding to the base material. A polyhydroxyalkanoate-containing structure, at least a part of a base material surface of the structure being coated with a polyhydroxyalkanoate, comprises the base material, a polyhydroxyalkanoate synthase immobilized on the base material surface, and the polyhydroxyalkanoate with which at least a part of the base material surface is coated, wherein the synthase contains an amino acid sequence capable of binding to the base material.
An improved process is disclosed for preparing a hydantoin derivative from a hydrophobic aldehyde or ketone. In the process for preparing a hydantoin derivative by reaction of a hydrophobic aldehyde or ketone with ammonium, cyanide and carbonate ions in water, the reaction is carried out with said hydrophobic aldehyde or ketone emulsified in the presence of a surface-active agent or by vigorous mechanical agitation, whereby the corresponding hydantoin derivative is produced in excellent yields.

There are discolsed a pesticidal composition containing a water-insoluble alginate, which is prepared by treating a solid composition containing (a) a pesticidally active ingredient which is a pest-controlling active ingredient or a plant growth-regulating active ingredient and (b) an alginic acid or a water-soluble alginate with an aqueous solution containing a divalent or polyvalent cation which can convert said alginic acid or water-soluble alginate into a water-insoluble alginate. Also disclosed is a pesticidal composition containing a water-insoluble alginate, which is prepared by coating a solid substance containing the pesticidally active ingredient with a water-insoluble alginate. The composition of the invention has excellent sustained-release effects of the pesticidally active ingredient.
