    Coordination polymers with redox active pendants, 5-ferrocenylpyrimidine·M(hfac)2}n [M = Mn (1a), Ni (1b), Cu (1c), Zn (1d)] and 5-ferrocenylpyrimidine·CuX}n [X = I (2a), Br (2b)], have been prepared and characterized. In complex 1c, the Cu(II) ions are linked by the bridging ligands to form one-dimensional chains. This complex was shown to exhibit an antiferromagnetic intra-chain interaction, which was analyzed by the Bonner–Fisher model (2J/kB = −6.3 K). Complex 2a shows a two-dimensional sheet-like structure, in which one-dimensional chains, consisting of the Cu(I) ions and the ligands, are further bridged by iodide anions. These compounds show quasi-reversible redox processes of the ferrocenyl groups in the solid state.

    A hydrogen-bonded assembly composed of ferrocenylpyrimidine (FcPM) and bromanilic acid (BA), represented as [FcPM](BA)(acetone)(0.5), was prepared and crystallographically characterized. The asymmetric unit of the crystal contained two crystallographically independent molecules of FcPM and BA, which were alternately connected to form one-dimensional zigzag chains via OH center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bonds. The BA molecules were stacked to form one-dimensional columns. No charge transfer was observed between FcPM and BA. Acetone molecules, which were located in channels, were desorbed at 433 K.     Reaction of platinum(II) salts with 5-ferrocenylpyrimidine (FcPM) afforded cis-[Pt(NH3)(2)(FcPM)(2)](PF6)(2) (1), trans-[Pt(NH3)(2)(FcPM)(2)](PF6)(2) (2), cis-[PtCl2(FcPM)(2)] (3), and cis-[PtCl2(DMSO)(FcPM)] (4): their spectroscopic and electrochemical properties were investigated.
