    Glycerol-derived ester oligomers from cork suberin
    摘要:
    The cork suberin polyester was partially depolymerized by a methanolysis reaction catalyzed by calcium hydroxide. The methano-lisate was analysed by ESI-MS/MS in the form of [M + Li](+) adduct-ions. This reaction solubilized a mixture of monomers and oligomers, including a set of glycerol-derived dimeric and trimeric esters. Four types of glycerol esters were identified: monoacyl-glycerols of alpha,omega-diacids, of omega-hydroxyacids and of monoacids; diglycerol diesters of alpha,omega-diacids; diacylglycerols of alpha,omega-diacids; monoacylglycerols of linear dimeric esters of alpha,omega-diacids and omega-hydroxyacids. The alpha,omega-diacids and omega-hydroxyacids found as monomer residues in the glycerol esters are the main ones found as cork suberin monomers. It is concluded that suberin is a glycerol-derived lipid of polymeric dimensions. Due to the protective and insulating role that it plays in plants, suberin should be considered together with the other known glycerolipids that build up biological membranes.     Described herein are formulations and methods of reducing spoilage in harvested produce by reducing the rate of water or mass loss, thereby resulting in high quality produce with lower rates of spoilage. The present disclosure provides coatings and methods of coating produce to prevent moisture loss from produce during storage and shipment of the produce. This in turn allows the produce to be shipped and stored at lower relative humidity (e.g., lower than industry standards for shipment and storage, or lower than about 90% relative humidity), which can help delay the growth of biotic stressors such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, and/or pests.

    The invention relates to methods and apparatus, designed for the chemical processing of outer birch bark for obtaining triterpene compounds - betulin and lupeol as well as suberinic acids, used in the chemical and pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries. The technical task to be solved with this invention is to develop a simple and efficient method for the chemical processing of outer birch bark for obtaining betulin, lupeol and suberinic acid salts in one apparatus and one outer birch bark processing cycle. According to the present invention, the advanced technical task is attained by a method for chemical processing of outer birch bark, wherein the betulin from the previously ground outer birch bark is isolated with organic solvents in a closed extraction technological complex with the solvent's recovery and the return of the condensate in the recycle, the extract flow is passed through a crystalliser, and then the extract is passed to an evaporator, a heater and a condenser, and the condensed Solution is introduced to the extractor again. In the crystalliser, the crystalline betulin is settled, but lupeol is isolated by crystallisation from the precipitate in the evaporator. After accomplishing the extraction process, the outer birch bark in the extractor is depolymerised, using KOH. The proposed method and apparatus enabled realising the complex obtaining of betulin and lupeol, as well as suberin derivatives in the continuous process with the solvent recycle, wherein the yield of betulin and lupeol is enhanced, in comparison with the known methods. Besides, this method made it possible to shorten many times the extraction time, simultaneously enhancing the efficiency

Cutin-like materials (CLMs) are presented which mimic and adapt coatings found in nature for the next generation of functional coatings. Cutin has several advantages including excellent UV resistance, natural resistance to bacteria and viruses, noncorrosive, and stability under abrupt changes in temperature and environment. CLMs can be engineered at the nanoscale and readily impregnated with metals and metal oxides materials.
