Disclosed herein is a process for preparing 2,4-bis(hexafluoroisopropylidene)-1,3-dithietane by reacting perfluoroisobutene with alkali metal salts of selected organic sulfur-containing acids at temperatures of about -80 DEG to 150 DEG C.
Co2(CO)8 reacts with the thioketene (CF3)2CCS to give a dinuclear compound [Co(CO)2(CF3)2CCS]2 (6. Photolysis of (CF3)2CCS with Fe(CO)5 leads to two differing complexes of the type [Fe2(CO)6(CF)3)2CCS] (9 and [Fe(CO)3(CF3)2CCS]2 (10). The “dimeric thiketene” (EtOOC)2CCSSCC(COOEt)2 reacts with Fe(CO)5 to give [Fe2(CO)6(EtOOC)2CCS] (13). The crystal structure of 9 has been determined by X-ray diffraction

The reaction of CS2 and tetramethylammonium fluoride (TMAF) with 2-H-heptafluoropropane (R227) leads to 2,4-bis(hexafluoroisopropylidene)-1,3-dithietane as well as to the tetramethylammonium salt of heptafluorodithioisobutyric acid. The latter anion resulted also from the reaction of CS2 and CsF with hexafluoropropene (HFP), whereas CS2, TMAF and HFP reacted to compounds derived from HFP dimerization
