  The invention provides 4(1H)quinolone derivatives of the formula I: wherein R represents an alkyl group containing up to 6 carbon atoms, R¹ represents an alkyl or alkenyl group containing up to 6 carbon atoms, R² and R³ singly each represents hydrogen, halogen, methoxy or a trifluoromethyl group, with the proviso that at least one of R² and R³ is hydrogen, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof and processes for their production.
