Die Zusammensetzung wird dann erhitzt, so dass örtliche Härtung des Epoxidharzes stattfindet, wo die Zusammensetzung von der Strahlung getroffen wurde, wobei die freigesetzte Säure als Beschleuniger bei der Härtung durch das benzoide Polyamin wirkt. In den nicht von der Strahlung getroffenen Teilen wird kein Säurebeschleuniger freigesetzt, so dass Härtung (und Unlöslichmachung des Epoxidharzes in Lösungsmitteln) sehr viel langsamer vor sich geht. Durch Behandlung mit einem geeigneten Lösungsmittel werden unbestrahlte (und somit ungehärtete) Teile der Zusammensetzungen weggelöst, wobei auf dem Substrat eine Abbildung entsteht.
