Lewis-acid catalyzed prenylation of aromatic amines with prenyl diisopropyl phosphate gave N-prenylated amines, whereas nitrogen-containingaromatic heretocycles gave nucleus prenylated products.
Pyrrole and indoles react smoothly with alkyl halides such as allyl bromide, prenyl bromide, crotyl bromide and propargyl bromide in the presence of zinc metal in THF to afford the corresponding 3- and 2-alkyl pyrrole and 3-alkyl indole derivatives in good yields with high regioselectivity.

A highly efficient and scalable synthesis of potent lipid peroxidation inhibitor pyrrolostatin is reported (4 steps, 48%). In addition to the synthesis of the natural product, strategies for the preparation of analogues differing in the three structural subunits, the polar head group, the N-substituent and the lipophilic tail are described.
