    The present invention relates to polyether compounds, active hydrogen compounds and resin-forming compositions composed of the polyols, and methods for producing foams by employing the active hydrogen components. These polyether compounds have a decreased number of moles of added EO thereby maintaining the hydrophobicity and have sufficient reactivity as polyol components of resins, thereby having high reaction rates. Therefore, it is possible to provide resins having excellent resin properties (tensile strength, flexural strength, water-absorption swelling ratio, etc.).

    A novel thermoplastic polymer composition comprises a blend of (A) a polyolefin graft polymer and (B) a copolymer of acrylonitrile and styrene modified with a base polymer such as an acrylic polymer, a chlorinated polyethylene, or a terpolymer of styrene, acrylonitrile and a polyene modifier, or (C) a copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride and modifications thereof, or (D) a condensation polymer such as a polycarbonate, a polyester of bisphenol and phthalic acids, or a polyalkylene terephthalate.

  • Graft polymers of polymerizable monomers and olefin polymers

    Graft polymers are prepared by reacting an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomer with a polymer of an olefin of 2 to about 8 carbon atoms in a process wherein the olefin polymer is substantially insoluble in the monomer but is capable of absorbing the monomer. In a preferred aspect, a vinyl halide polyolefin graft polymer is produced by reacting a solid polyolefin particle with a vinyl halide monomer in which the polyolefin is substantially insoluble, but is capable of absorbing the monomer. The solid particles can be contacted with the monomer in one step or in stages. When the stage-wise reaction is continued until the proportion of polyolefin in the polymer product is about 2 to about 20 weight percent, the resulting product can be formed to a transparent or translucent article. When a small proportion of solid polyolefin is employed in the polymerization process, both a graft polymer and a polymer of the unsaturated monomer are simultaneously produced in the same reactor and can be readily mechanically separated into the individual products.

    Disclosed is a photosensitive composition for volume hologram recording which is used for recording an interference fringe produced by a laser beam or a light having excellent coherence, as fringes having different refractive index. The composition comprising: (a) a cationic polymerizable compound which is liquid at ambient temperature; (b) a radical polymerizable compound; (c) a radical photopolymerization initiator composition sensitized by a laser beam or a light having excellent coherence which has a specific wavelength to polymerize the ingredient (b); and (d) a cationic photopolymerization initiator composition which shows low photosensitivity to the light having a specific wavelength and is sensitized by a light having the other wavelength to polymerize the ingredient (a), wherein an average refractive index of the ingredient (a) is smaller than that of the ingredient (b). A process for producing the photosensitive composition is also disclosed.

    Our discovery concerns the method of synthesis and the application of new chemical products for plant growing. These new products are polymeric derivatives of low molecular weight plant growth regulators and are characterized by slow release of the auxin from the polymeric carrier. By copolymerisation of allylic esters of the low molecular weight auxins with the acrylic (or the methylacrylic) acid and the following modification of the synthesized co-polymers of acids to their corresponding ammonium salts, water soluble polymeric auxins possesing optimal molecular weight and desirable (high) content of the low molecular weight auxin in the polymer were prepared. The method of synthesis and the final products fulfill the requirements of the preparation technology and of their application respectively. We suggest the application of the new products in agronomy (i.e. treatment of seeds, rootstocks, plants, scions, cutting etc) either by themselves or by combination of them with other chemicals. The chemical structure of the new products we discover is :    R = H-, -CH3, Au = auxin residue
