    Bisurea gelling agents that impart a number of unexpected benefits within various gelled formulations and exhibit great versatility in terms of gelling capabilities for many types of solvents are provided. Such gelling agents should include pendant groups, such as sterically hindering alkyl groups attached to polyoxyalkylenated moieties that allow the gelling agent to be compatible with the target liquid system at elevated temperatures, while controlling and/or limiting the network formation and strength during the cooling cycle. The result is that a reliable, hard gel is formed that does not crash out of solution easily and that does not exhibit unwanted cracking or precipitating out within the final formulation. Alternatively, novel gelling agents having two urea groups but that are asymmetrical in configuration have been produced in order to provide the same control in temperature, compatibility, and efficiency. Final gelled formulations, such as antiperspirant sticks and other like consumer items, are provided as well within this invention.

    Surfactant compositions containing compounds according to structure (I), and methods of making them, are disclosed. The compounds provide reduced dynamic and equilibrium surface tension, good solubility, moderate foaming, and good cleaning performance. The methods for making them involve reaction of N-(polyhydroxyalkyl)-alkylamines with dinitriles, dialdehydes, or acetals or hemiacetals of dialdehydes in the presence of hydrogen and a transition metal catalyst. In structure (I), x is an integer from about 1 to 12, R 1 and R 2 are independently C3-C30 linear alkyl, cyclic alkyl, branched alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkylaryl, alkoxyalkyl, and dialkylaminoalkyl; and R 3 and R 4 are independently hydrogen or a pyranosyl group such as α-D-glucopyranosyl, β-D-glucopyranosyl, or β-D-galactopyranosyl.

    A method for reducing the formation of combustion chamber deposits in an engine using a friction modifier for combustible fuels is provided. The friction modifier is prepared by combining a saturated carboxylic acid and an alkylated or alkoxylated amine. The particular selection of friction modifier enables a stable additive concentrate to be formulated providing a significant decrease in CCD without increasing the incidence of IVD deposits in combustion engines running on a fuel modified with the additive concentrate.

    A friction modifier for combustible fuels is provided that is prepared by combining a saturated carboxylic acid and an alkoxylated amine or etheramine. Furthermore, there also is an additive concentrate for use in fuels, especially in gasoline for internal combustion engines, comprising (a) a friction modifier comprising of a branched saturated carboxylic acid salt of an alkoxylated amine, such as isohexyloxypropylamine isostearate; (b) a detergent package, as well as the combustible fuels containing this additive concentrate. The particular selection of friction modifier (a) enables a stable additive concentrate to be formulated providing a significant benefit in friction loss when incorporated in gasoline used to fuel an internal combustion engine, and hence an improvement in fuel economy. Moreover, the use of the friction modifier (a) in combination with a detergent package permits increased fuel efficiency to be obtained without increasing the incidence of IVD deposits in combustion engines running on a fuel modified with the additive concentrate.

    A fuel additive and method for improving fuel economy in an engine. The method includes providing a fuel composition to an engine, wherein the fuel composition includes gasoline and from 10 to 750 ppm by weight based on a total weight of the fuel composition of a fuel stable additive of the formula: wherein R1 comprises a saturated hydrocarbyl group having from 6 to 30 carbon atoms, R2 is an alkylene, polyalkylene, alkoxyalkylene or polyalkoxyalkylene group containing from 2 to 25 carbon atoms, R3 is an alkylene group containing from 2 to 5 carbon atoms, R4 is a linear alkyleme group containing 2 to 3 carbon atoms, and x is an integer selected from 0 and 1, and combusting the fuel composition in the engine.
