    A process for the preparation of functional molecules using the thiol-ene coupling reaction and a process for the preparation of protected functional thiols, specifically thioesters is provided. The methods may be used to make functional polymers and other molecules. The method of making a functionalized polymer using a thiol-ene reaction comprises: providing a functionalized thioester having the following formula: (I) wherein R is a functional group and COR' is a protecting group; cleaving the functionalized thioester, forming a functional thiol and an acyl group; providing a polymer having a pendant vinyl group; and reacting the polymer with the functional thiol whereby a functionalized polymer is formed, wherein the functional thiol is not isolated prior to reacting with the polymer.

    The present invention relates to hydrogel adhesives for attachment to mammalian skin which exhibit particularly good attachment in excess moisture conditions, through the solution of the rheology conditions and level of monomers in salt form. According to a specific embodiment of the present invention, hydrogel compositions are provided, which provide particularly good peel strength and cohesiveness properties; through the selection of monomer unit type of degrees of neutralization. The present invention also encompasses personal care products containing the active adhesives, such as disposable waste management articles, disposable absorbent articles, and various functional articles for attachment to the human body.

    Stable, highly filled cationic dental compositions useful for the production of dental prostheses and dental restoration materials contain: (1) at least one compound which is reactive cationically when activated, advantageously at least one UV-and cationically reactive oxirane-functionalized silicone; (2) at least one dental filler, advantageously SiO 2 ; (3) at least one organic polymer or copolymer dispersant having an amine index less than or equal to 100 mg of potassium hydroxide per gram of dispersant, advantageously a polyurethane/acrylate copolymer or alkylammonium salt thereof; (4) at least one cationic photoinitiator, advantageously iodonium borate; and (5) optionally, at least one photosensitizer.

    The invention concerns dental compositions. Said composition comprises (1) a silicone crosslinkable and/or polymerizable by cationic process; (2) an efficient amount of at least an initiator such as an organometallic complex borate; and (3) a dental filler present in the composition in a proportion of at least 10 wt. % relative to the composition total weight. Said dental compositions are useful for making dental prostheses or for dental restoration.
