    A process is proposed for preparing isocyanates by thermally cleaving carbamates to obtain a carbamate cleavage gas comprising the corresponding isocyanate and the corresponding alcohol, which comprises quenching the carbamate cleavage gas in the presence of an ether which functions as an inhibitor for the reverse reaction of the isocyanate with the alcohol.

    (1) A methacrylic ester or an acrylic ester is anionically polymerized, using a polymerization initiator compound comprising an addition reaction product of a conjugated diene compound and an organic alkali metal compound, in the presence of a tertiary organoaluminum compound having in the molecule thereof a chemical structure represented by a formula: Al—O—Ar wherein Ar represents an aromatic ring; or (2) a methacrylic ester or an acrylic ester is anionically polymerized, using a polymerization initiator compound comprising an addition reaction product of an organic alkali metal compound and a compound having a 1,1-diaryl-1-alkene structure, by adding the ester in the form of a mixture with the above-mentioned specific tertiary organoaluminum compound to the polymerization system. In this way, various species of the esters can be anionically polymerized with a high initiation efficiency and a high living polymerization property in a solvent which can easily be recovered and reused under a mild cooling condition, using an organic alkali metal compound which has relatively good convenience.

    A mixture of conjugates in which each conjugate in the mixture comprises a calcitonin drug coupled to an oligomer that includes a polyalkylene glycol moiety is disclosed. The mixture may lower serum calcium levels in a subject by 10, 15 or even 20 percent or more. Moreover, the mixture may be more effective at surviving an in vitro model of intestinal digestion than non-conjugated calcitonin. Furthermore, the mixture may exhibit a higher bioavailability than non-conjugated calcitonin. The compositions of this invention are useful in the treatment of various bone disorders and pain.

    A non-polydispersed mixture of conjugates in which each conjugate in the mixture comprises a drug coupled to an oligomer that includes a polyalkylene glycol moiety is disclosed. The mixture may exhibit higher in vivo activity than a polydispersed mixture of similar conjugates. The mixture may be more effective at surviving an in vitro model of intestinal digestion than polydispersed mixtures of similar conjugates. The mixture may result in less inter-subject variability than polydispersed mixtures of similar conjugates.

    A process for cleaning a wafer having an uneven pattern at its surface. The process includes at least the steps of: cleaning the wafer with a cleaning liquid; substituting the cleaning liquid retained in recessed portions of the wafer with a water-repellent liquid chemical after cleaning; and drying the wafer, wherein the cleaning liquid contains 80 mass % or greater of a solvent having a boiling point of 55 to 200° C., and wherein the water-repellent liquid chemical supplied in the substitution step has a temperature of not lower than 40° C. and lower than a boiling point of the water-repellent liquid chemical thereby imparting water repellency at least to surfaces of the recessed portions.
