The invention provides a method for producing an optically active α,-substituted-β-amino acid represented by formula (2), the method comprising a step in which an optical isomer mixture of an α-substituted-β-amino acid ester represented by formula (1) is subjected to asymmetric hydrolysis by using an enzyme and such capable of asymmetrically hydrolyzing the ester site of said optical isomer mixture.
