    The processability and resistance to oxidative degradation of polyphenylene ether resins, alone, or in combination with a styrene resin, is improved by includ­ing a modifier comprising an alpha, beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid or derivative. In an embodiment, the formation of a composition comprising a poly(2,6-di­methyl-1,4-phenylene ether) and 2 parts per hundred of dibutyl maleate results in a 26 percent improvement in spiral flow, and a 30 percent reduction in oxygen uptake at 115°C. enhancing the utility of polyphenylene ether resins as extrusion and injection molding materials.

    Additives suitable for improving the flow and/or depressing the cloud point of crude oils, lubricating oils and especially fuel oils are polymers containing defined alkyl groups of at least 8 carbon atoms chain length. Such polymers are either (a) of a mixture of monomers having only two alkyl groups one being at least 3 carbon atoms longer than the other or (b) of a mixture of monomers having only three alkyl groups each differing by at least 3 carbon atoms and the middle alkyl group being half the combined length of the other two. Alternatively, the polymer may be derived from a monomer having the two defined alkyl groups (a) or the three defined alkyl groups (b).

    The present invention relates to a method of preparing a vinyl chloride-based copolymer having excellent plasticity and processability, a vinyl chloride-based copolymer prepared thereby, a thermoplastic resin composition including the vinyl chloride-based copolymer, and a thermoplastic resin molded article prepared from the composition. Since the preparation method may improve copolymerizability with a vinyl chloride-based monomer by continuously adding or dividedly adding an unsaturated fatty acid ester mixture used as a comonomer during the time of specific polymerization conversion rate, the unreacted unsaturated fatty acid ester mixture may be reduced, and, as a result, the conversion rate of the vinyl chloride-based copolymer may be significantly improved. Thus, plasticity and processability of a vinyl chloride-based copolymer prepared by the above method may be significantly improved.
