perfluoroallyl cyanide CF2CFCF2CN (PFACN) is presented. This includes the addition – elimination reaction of cyanide anion with perfluoroallyl fluorosulfate CF2CFCF2OSO2F (PFAFS). The reaction conditions, factorsaffecting the reactivity and regioselectivity of the process, the choice of reagent as well as the course of competitive reactions are discussed, too.

The reaction of a polyfluorocarbonyl compound such as a polyfluoroketone or polyfluorocarboxylic acid fluoride with fluoride ion and a polyfluoroallyl chloride, bromide or fluorosulfate produces a polyfluoroallyloxy carboxylic acid or ester, e.g., CF.sub.2 .dbd.CFCF.sub.2 OCF.sub.2 CF.sub.2 COOH. The polyfluoroallyloxy compounds copolymerize with ethylenically unsaturated monomers such as tetrafluoroethylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene or vinylidene fluoride to form polymers which are moldable, and in some cases electrically conducting or are water-wettable and dyeable.
Perfluoroglycidyl ethers of the formula ##STR1## are prepared by epoxidation of a perfluoroallyl ether of the formula CF.sub.2 .dbd.CFCF.sub.2 OR.sub.F. The glycidyl ethers are useful as monomers for preparing polymers which are useful as stable oils and greases. Polymers containing functional moieties which provide crosslinking or cure sites are stable elastomeric materials useful as sealants, caulks, and fabricated objects.
