Gold standard support! The directreductive mono‐ or di‐N‐alkylation of aromatic nitro compounds with alcohols, using a hydrogen‐borrowing strategy, was efficiently promoted by a ligand‐free titania‐supportedgoldcatalyst system (see scheme). A variety of nitroarenes were selectively converted into the corresponding secondary or tertiary amines in good to excellent yields without any co‐catalysts

A potassium iodide catalysed method for the selective N-monoalkylation anilines with alkylhalides and alkyltosylates under microwave irradiation is described. The corresponding N-alkylanilines are obtained in good yields with only minor quantities of dialkylation by-products. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
One-Pot Access to 2,3-Disubstituted 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroquinolines by Reductive Amination of Aldehydes with Sodium Cyanoborohydride

Slight modification of the reductive amination Borch method (delayed addition of NaBH3CN) provided an easy one-pot synthesis of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline derivatives from enolizable aldehydes.
