2-(Trimethylsilyl)ethanol as a new alcohol equivalent has been employed for copper-catalyzed coupling of aryl iodides. A direct synthesis of trimethyl(2-phenoxyethyl)silanes from the corresponding aromatic fluorides and 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethanol was developed.
