A novel synthesis of benzyl hydrazines through oxidative amination of benzylic C–H bonds has been developed. The resulting aminated products are accessed directly from the reaction of alkylarenes with dialkyl/diphenyl azodicarboxylates using Cu2O/Phen as the catalytic system. The reaction proceeded smoothly and a decent range of N-substituted hydrazides was synthesized in acceptable to good yields

6-[(Dimethylamino)methylene]amino-1,3-dimethyluracil 1 undergoes formal [4+2] cycloadditionreactions with electron deficient olefins to give pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines. With DMAD or azodicarboxylates Michael addition occurs leading to pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyridines (X-ray analysis) and theophylline derivatives.

An efficient cascade reaction of 2,3-allenoic acids with dialkylazodicarboxylate in the presence of PPh3 affording 1,2-bis(alkoxycarbonyl)pyrazol-3-ones in moderate yields has been developed. The reaction may proceed via the intramolecular Michael addition of the expected 2,3-allenoyl hydrazines.
Benzothiete () undergoes cycloadditionreactions with hetero dienophiles with NN-, NO- or CO- double bonds, leading to six-membered heterocyclic ring systems of 2H-3,4-dihydro-1,2,3-benzothiadiazine (), 4H-3,1,2-benzoxathiazine () and 4H-3,1-benzoxathiin.

High-throughput late-stage functionalization of complex molecules was achieved using an automated platform based on desorption-electrospray-ionization mass spectrometry. Accelerated reactions in microdroplets enable the ultrafast synthesis of diversified drug molecules. Over 250 analogues of bioactive compounds were generated and characterized using nanogram amounts of material in less than 1 second
