    The use of microwave heating technique for the acceleration of ortho ester Claisen rearrangement (a three step transformation) is described. Irradiation of a DMF solution of the allyl alcohol , triethyl orthoacetate and propionic acid (catalytic) in an Erlenmeyer flask for 10 minutes in a microwave oven generated the ester in 83% yield.     Methods for catalyzing C—H insertion reactions using heme enzymes are described. The present disclosure provides a method for producing a C—H insertion product comprising providing an substrate having an sp3-hybridized C—H bond, a carbene precursor such as a diazo reagent, and a heme enzyme, and admixing the components in a reaction for a time sufficient to produce the C—H insertion product. Heme enzyme variants useful for carrying out in vivo and in vitro C—H insertion reactions, as well as expression vectors and host cells expressing the heme enzymes, are also described.

    A convenient pathway for the synthesis of new of beta-aryl-delta-iodo-gamma-lactones is described. The synthetic route led to both cis and trans isomers which were separated by column chromatography or crystallization. The structures of synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectroscopic methods: IR, NMR and HR-MS. For lactones with naphthyl ring (6e and 7e) the crystal structures were also obtained. The lactones were screened for biological evaluation against cancer line HL-60 (human promyelocytic leukemia). The tests showed that the presence of substituent at the benzene ring does not significantly affect the antiproliferative activity of the compound. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
